Company History
The business began life as Titterington Commercials, founded by Fred Titterington in 1973, and became the limited company, Titterington DAF Trucks, in 1978.
In 1980 a majority shareholding in the company was purchased by North East DAF Trucks Ltd. Ron Fullelove took over the running of the company which was re-named Solway DAF Trucks Ltd. In 1986 Ron’s son, Peter, became the main shareholder.
In 1988 the company obtained the newly formed Leyland DAF Franchise following the merger of DAF Trucks with Leyland Trucks. The Leyland DAF merger brought about a major expansion of the business with additional workshop and parts premises being built and new bodyshop and paintshop facilities purchased.
At this time Ernie Coulthard, Service Director, and George Cleasby, Sales Director, became shareholders of the company.
Sadly George Cleasby died in 1990 and Chairman, Ron Fullelove, died in 1993.
In 1992 the company expanded its product offering by adding the van franchise for LDV.
In recent years, the company has expanded by developing its after-sales operations throughout the area and new depots were opened at Dumfries in 1995, Workington in 2000 and at Penrith in 2002. All of the depots experienced significant growth in business and expansion of the facilities available.
The company currently employs 80 staff and has a turnover of about £20 million.
